CRIME NEWS

  • Dover police investigated a burglary at Taqueria El Cabrito on Forest St. Thursday night—officers began the investigation at 5:40 a.m. Friday after finding a shattered glass door and missing property, with a Hispanic male suspect reportedly using an unknown object—no leads have been established.  WBOC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University announced that it was granted almost $800,000 through the National Science Foundation Track 1 Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship to expand its STEM education programs and build a pipeline for K-12 math and science teachers—helping local schools address critical teacher shortages. University officials said the funding will also strengthen partnerships with district schools such as Early College School at DSU and Capital School District.  WBOC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC will host its annual Coastal Cleanup Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon along Delaware's beaches, with a rain date of Sept. 20. Since sign-ups ended in August, volunteers can no longer register at many sites—state officials say the event will help protect local wildlife and natural habitats.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Superior Court ruled on August 29th that residents aged 18 or older can now bear arms without supervision—hunters aged 18 to 21 no longer require a person aged 21 or older to supervise them. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will update the hunting guide for future seasons.  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bayhealth Cancer Institute has launched its 20th annual Go Pink campaign to boost awareness and funds for free breast cancer screenings, education, and treatment in our community. The new theme, Go Pink, Grow Hope, features $20 T-shirts—purchases will support the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and provide essential breast health services.  Coast TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lewes Yacht Club and USODA announced they will host the 2025 Optimist Atlantic Coast Championship on Sept. 6-7 with 160 boats expected from across the east coast. The top 25 percent of finishers will qualify for the 2026 Optimist Team Trials — drawing sailors from multiple states.  Coast TV
