CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the 47th Annual Nanticoke Indian Pow Wow begins at Hudson Fields in Milton with events starting at 10am, including a Grand Entry at noon, two dance sessions and a street rod car show on Saturday. On Sunday, a church service starts at 9am followed by a Grand Entry at noon and two dance sessions — gates close at 7pm each day and admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 11 to 17 while children 10 and under are free.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • William Thompson, a retired Delaware State Police captain, was sworn in by Judge Jeffrey Clark as chief of the Delaware Capitol Police in Dover—he will lead security efforts at key state government sites.  WDEL
  • The Delaware DMV notified alternative fuel vehicle owners of a new annual registration fee that will start on October 1, with payment due by November 1—fees are additional to standard registration costs and notices have been mailed and emailed.  Coast TV
  • Dover resident William G. Faust Jr. said City Hall security must improve as more attendees at council meetings express concerns over gun violence and fatal shootings. The mayor and council will review options such as metal detectors and extra cameras—while ensuring that safety upgrades do not limit free speech in this citizens’ house.  Bay to Bay News
  • DelDOT announced that starting Thursday, September 11, the Woodland Ferry will be closed for its annual maintenance and US Coast Guard inspection—service will resume at 7 a.m. on Monday, September 22.  WGMD
  • Governor Matt Meyer signed House Bill 128, which requires Delaware businesses with at least 10 employees to offer paid family and medical leave starting Jan. 1—allowing workers up to 12 weeks of parental leave and six weeks for medical care and other qualifying events.  Bay to Bay News
