GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 38 in August, allowing Delawareans to receive up to $5,000 a year for veterinary care and farrier services for retired law enforcement horses— the law becomes effective immediately and will be implemented six months later.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware law says tossing yard waste on a neighbor's property without permission is littering — with first offenses facing a minimum fine of $50 and up to eight hours of community service. A second offense within two years brings a $75 fine and up to 25 hours of community service.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer announced on Friday that Delaware will join a regional public health coalition with other Northeast states to boost vaccines, track diseases, and improve emergency readiness—officials said the move will use science to guide policy and strengthen state labs.  WGMD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delaware State won its home opener 37-32 on Sept 6 at Alumni Stadium after quarterback Kaiden Bennett scored a 27-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds left against Albany—play was delayed for 3 hours due to weather and ended the Hornets' eight-game home losing streak under coach DeSean Jackson.  Delaware Online
