- ➤ Delaware will name the 2026 Teacher of the Year next month at Modern Maturity Center in Dover—where the announcement will follow a dinner event starting around 6 p.m. Twenty teachers statewide, who already received $2,000 each from their nominations, are competing for a $5,000 student benefit grant and a $3,000 personal award. - ➤ In education news, Appoquinimink will hold its annual Patriot Day ceremony on Sept. 11 in Middletown to honor those lost in the 9/11 attack while Sussex Technical High School’s marching band earned an Outstanding Performance award after its July parade in Washington D.C. - ➤ Today, Governor Matt Meyer will sign two bipartisan bills in Wilmington that support Delaware firefighters—one to help cover funeral expenses for a deceased volunteer fire company member and the other to let local fire departments offer high school students an elective credit for community service.
