  • Delaware State Police identified 59-year-old Joseph Laclair—of Clayton—as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred early Friday morning on Smyrna-Leipsic Road.  Coast TV

  • Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will unveil Engine 19 IPA— a bold, citrus-forward pale ale brewed in collaboration with Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway and Flyers Charities to support first responders.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University partnered with TD Bank to create summer internship opportunities for its students; two secured return offers and one received career coaching. TD mentor JoAnn Means said the program—supporting trainees like Tymere, Chaasahn, and Elijah—will expand to give more local students pathways to future careers.  Delaware State University
  • Delaware will name the 2026 Teacher of the Year next month at Modern Maturity Center in Dover—where the announcement will follow a dinner event starting around 6 p.m. Twenty teachers statewide, who already received $2,000 each from their nominations, are competing for a $5,000 student benefit grant and a $3,000 personal award.  Delaware Online
  • In education news, Appoquinimink will hold its annual Patriot Day ceremony on Sept. 11 in Middletown to honor those lost in the 9/11 attack while Sussex Technical High School’s marching band earned an Outstanding Performance award after its July parade in Washington D.C. Earlier, the Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Civics Education honored top educators on Sept. 5 and Wilmington University will launch cloud education pathways on Oct. 27 to address IT skill shortages—marking multiple efforts to boost learning in the state.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Governor Matt Meyer will sign two bipartisan bills in Wilmington that support Delaware firefighters—one to help cover funeral expenses for a deceased volunteer fire company member and the other to let local fire departments offer high school students an elective credit for community service. Both measures passed the General Assembly unanimously.  WGMD
  • Former President Joe Biden plans to build his presidential library in Delaware and has asked aides to begin fundraising and search for a site—his new 13 member board includes Secretary of State Antony Blinken, adviser Steve Ricchetti and fundraiser Rufus Gifford.  Coast TV
  • The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will hold a hybrid public hearing on September 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Little Creek Hunter Education Training Center in Dover + online to get public input on a draft addendum that would cut fishery removals by 12% and change rules on commercial tagging and size limits to help rebuild the striped bass stock by 2029.  WGMD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saint Mark’s High baseball coach Matt Smith—who guided the Spartans to 10 state titles and achieved 450 wins—died Sept. 6 after a four-year battle with cancer. He also served as athletic director and was inducted into the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018, leaving a lasting legacy in his community.  Delaware Online
