CULTURE NEWS

  • Kent County Theatre Guild presents Pie in the Sky by Lawrence Thelen with Elizabeth Roe and Lori Ann Johnson. The play opens today in Dover and runs on weekends through September 27—exploring the bond between 85-year-old Margaret and her 65-year-old daughter Dory.  Delaware Public Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today the Delaware Tourism Office is accepting TEAMS program applications to fund sporting events that will boost tourism and economic growth in Delaware — the first round awarded $500K to 24 organizations, which generated 20,000 hotel room nights and 180,000 visitors. This program supports both new and existing events to drive regional and national attention.  WGMD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester chaired a Senate HELP Subcommittee forum on federal vaccine policies where critics argued that HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s changes confused Delaware school nurses and families—raising concerns over vaccination. The forum noted 37 measles outbreaks with 1,454 confirmed cases in children and teens and 3 deaths, warning of a negative impact on public health.  Delaware Public Media
  • A nonprofit named First State Aquatic Center is proposing a new aquatic center in Kent County to boost economic growth and tourism — the facility may be built in the capital city to serve local visitors.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware Governor Matt Meyer signed two bills on Tuesday, September 9 to support the fire service—one bill allows high school students to earn volunteer credit at firehouses while the other provides a $7,000 death benefit for volunteers' families. Officials said the measures are meant to help recruit and retain firefighters.  WDEL
  • Gov. Matt Meyer signed several educational bills at Stanton Middle School — including measures for school board reform and a universal free school breakfast program enacted on Sept. 2 — before today. The legislation is aimed at strengthening Delaware's education system.  Bay to Bay News
