  • Sunday night in Georgetown, hundreds held a candlelight vigil to honor Charlie Kirk, who was shot at a public event earlier this month and was known for his conservative views—GOP Chair Daniel Willis and State Sen. Brian Pettyjohn urged peaceful unity to carry on his legacy.  Coast TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dover Police Chief Thomas A. Johnson Jr. reflected on his 41-year career and the department’s major strides—including reviving the police academy, launching a Behavioral Health Unit, and expanding victim services—as it celebrates 100 years of service. He stressed that the department will continue to build community trust and work to solve crimes for a safer future.  Bay to Bay News
  • Today, Governor Matt Meyer is expected to sign House Bill 119—known as the Freedom to Read Act—which will protect library materials from removal solely because of partisan, ideological or religious objections. Public and school libraries must use written policies and a review process to keep challenged items available until final decisions are made.  Coast TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • In August, the CDC said that the mosquito is the world's deadliest animal—this bug spreads diseases like West Nile virus—in Delaware, where DNREC reports 57 species. Residents are urged to remove standing water—where mosquitoes breed—and use repellent to lower the risk of illness.  Delaware Online

  • On Sept. 13, the Blue Hens beat UConn with a score of 44 to 41 in overtime at Delaware Stadium — 17,862 fans cheered a historic win that signals the team's push into FBS and Conference USA.  Delaware Online
  • Desiree Abrams made history as Delaware’s first female high school football crew chief on Aug. 29 in Dover—she hopes her role will pave the way for more women in the sport.  Bay to Bay News
