COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Delaware Alliance Against Sexual Violence will host a community engagement luncheon and prevention education event at Delaware Technical Community College’s Terry Campus — the program will offer educational opportunities and resources to help prevent sexual violence.  Bay to Bay News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rehoboth Beach’s Sea Witch Festival was named one of the nation’s Best Fall Festivals by USA Today (based on readers’ votes) and will run from Oct 24 to 26 with parades, magic shows, costumes and contests.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Voting Rights Coalition praised state election officials for denying a DOJ request for voter registration records with sensitive data—saying the move protects voter privacy under state and federal law. The group commended Commissioner Anthony Albence and urged officials to continue defending voting rights.  Coast TV
  • Kent County Levy Court is hiring for positions including paramedic, electrician, wastewater operations supervisor, maintenance mechanic, engineering intern, and GIS technician — candidates should visit the Kent County website to apply.  Coast TV
  • The Delaware State Housing Authority launched two pilot programs to help local governments streamline housing recovery after disasters and update outdated zoning laws to boost affordable housing—municipalities chosen for the disaster recovery program will participate in a process lasting 12 months while those interested in zoning reform can apply by Oct. 31. The programs aim to create best practices for future disaster planning and to expand affordable housing options.  Coast TV
  • Kent County Parks and Recreation surveyed over 500 neighbors who want to preserve the nostalgic Picadilly Castle theme at Brecknock Park—many favor keeping the natural wood look that built its cherished past. Officials will form a committee to review playground designs and narrow proposals before public review—construction of the new playscape is expected to begin in late 2026.  WBOC
  • Today, Mayor Robin R. Christiansen said Dover is working to make the city safer and stronger using the Capital City 2030 masterplan developed after discussions with over 800 community members. The plan calls for nearly 1,000 new homes, 97,000 square feet of commercial space, a hotel, an amphitheater, a riverwalk and over $500 million in investment—focusing on downtown growth, neighborhood stability and public safety under Chief Thomas Johnson’s leadership.  Bay to Bay News
  • DelDOT announced new lane closure hours on SR 1 and SR 16 starting October 1 — SR 1 will have daytime closures Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with nightly closures from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., while SR 16 will have closures daily during the same hours. The extended schedule will last through the off season until April 30 as crews work on pavement, embankment improvements, and bridge development.  Coast TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Thursday’s sports contests, Lake Forest High extended its unbeaten streak with a 2—0 win over Milford in boys’ soccer as junior Brayden Starkey scored and the team benefited from an earlier own goal. Other games saw Caesar Rodney win 2—1 over Appoquinimink while local teams posted varied results in field hockey, volleyball and cross country.  Bay to Bay News
