COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Delaware organizations have planned several Trunk or Treat events with free entry and activities for families—Dover will host the Police’s Halloween Trunk or Treat Bash at Legislative Mall on Oct.25 and Autism Delaware will hold a fundraiser at Delmarva Corrugated Packaging on Oct.26. Other communities in Selbyville, Glasgow, Kenton, New Castle, Georgetown, Wyoming and Blades will offer candy, games and more to celebrate Halloween.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bally’s Dover Casino Resort announced on Sept.15 that Fire & Ice has been closed for renovations and will be reworked into a stylish new cocktail bar and lounge with a rotating cocktail bar—complete with live entertainment—and upgraded carpeting. The renovation is set to finish early 2026.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover is showing Keith Duncan: Battle of the Bands, an exhibition of 45 mixed-media works that celebrate HBCU marching band culture with support from Art Bridges and local partners. The museum will also host free Biggs Band Days for middle school students on Oct. 14 and Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — offering guided tours and art workshops to inspire young musicians.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During their Thursday meeting, board members of the Dover Police Advisory Board said that few local residents attended its sessions over the past year, unlike Dover Public Library events that drew high turnout. They plan to hold meetings outside the police department and increase social media outreach, and the next meeting will be held on October 16th—Police Chief Thomas Johnson explained that these sessions focus on local policing concerns.  Delaware Public Media
  • Delaware law prohibits owning, selling, or buying raccoons because state regulations require a permit for native wildlife and the written proof exception does not apply — raccoons are classified as rabies vector species. Veterinarians may treat injured raccoons without a permit if they release the animal or transfer it to a licensed rehabilitator — reinforcing the strict guidelines in place.  Delaware Online

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Milburn Orchards, located 1.4 miles west of the Delaware border, was named the 10th-best apple orchard in the country by USA TODAY 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards and has remained in the top 10 for the past four years—boosting its appeal for local visitors this Fall Festival, which runs through Nov. 2 with apple picking and other activities offered on select weekends.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delaware football, with a 2-1 record, faces FLA. INTERNATIONAL, also 2-1, today at 6 p.m. at Pitbull Stadium in Westchester—the game will air on WDSD 94.7-FM and ESPN-plus.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware football earned a historic win in its Conference USA opener in Westchester, Fla.—Coach Ryan Carty said he did not know how the team would match up against their strong conference opponents.  Bay to Bay News
  • Delaware State defeated St. Francis 33-10 on Sept. 20 at DeGol Field in Loretto, Pennsylvania—marking its first three-game win streak since Oct. 2012. Strong runs by Marquis Gillis and James Jones helped the Hornets dominate the game.  Delaware Online
