BUSINESS NEWS

  • First Watch opened its new restaurant in Dover on Monday, Sept 22 at 40 N. Dupont Hwy — the 5,200-square-foot venue seats over 180 guests and offers a patio, interior bar and unlimited Project Sunrise coffee with meals until Sept 26. It serves a chef-inspired menu with fresh, made-to-order breakfast, brunch and lunch items and operates daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  First State Update

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the Biggs Museum of American Art’s Harvest Party on Sept. 20th in Dover—its new exhibit 'Battle of the Bands: The HBCU Marching Band Series' honored HBCU marching bands. Keith Duncan’s work celebrated these groups—marking a cultural milestone for the local community.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, Delaware State University dedicated its new Agilent Hub for Agriculture, Innovation and Extension at the former baseball field site during a ribbon-cutting attended by students, faculty, local officials, and Agilent Technologies representatives—each celebrating the new public-private partnership. The 10,500 square foot facility was funded by USDA, the state, and a $10 million investment from Agilent, and it will boost research and hands-on learning for the university.  Delaware State University
  • Governor Matt Meyer signed a proclamation Monday making September Literacy Month in Delaware and announced his FY2026 budget that adds $33.1 million for school growth, $8.4 million for mental health support, $8 million for early literacy, and $3 million for classroom projects—meant to boost reading and academic performance.   • Delaware State University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday to open its $20 million Agilent Hub—a center for agriculture innovation and extension funded by Agilent Technologies, the USDA, and the state. Students and community members gathered to explore new equipment and robotics that will boost research and support local farming.  WBOC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Department of Agriculture confirmed that a box tree moth was found during routine trap inspections near the New Castle County and Kent County border, marking the first time the pest has been detected in the area. The caterpillars can strip boxwood shrubs and remain active until September or October — homeowners and nurseries are advised to check their plants for damage.  Coast TV
  • Delaware saw hunting licenses peak at about 30,000 in 1975 and drop to 15,399 in 2024, showing fewer people now grow up hunting. LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Delaware offers seven hidden spots for locals to explore including the Delaware Shoppes in Dover where residents can buy local souvenirs, the Air Mobility Command Museum with its huge C-5 airplane at Dover Air Force Base, and the Johnson Victrola Museum honoring the state’s musical past. Some sites, like the Granogue estate in Centreville and a patch of land in New Jersey, remain off-limits to the public—each showcasing a unique slice of the state’s heritage.  Delaware Online

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Delaware State Housing Authority announced preliminary low-income housing tax credit allocations to four projects that will build 105 new units and preserve 116 existing ones. The awards include a senior living high-rise in Wilmington, preserved rental contracts at Georgetown Apartments I, 46 new units at Willows at Northstar in Lewes and 40 preserved units at Mispillion Station III — all required to remain affordable for at least 30 years.  Delaware Public Media
