EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to open its Agilent Hub for Agriculture, Innovation, and Extension, a $20 million center funded by Agilent Technologies, the USDA, and the state to enhance research and technology in farming—offering students and local farmers access to state-of-the-art equipment and collaborative projects.  WDEL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Delaware will allow open burning to resume on October 1 now that the Ozone Season is over after the ban since the end of April. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware has formed a new cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs to serve more than 70,000 veterans, and Governor Matt Meyer nominated Brigadier General Karen Berry as its first Secretary. She was confirmed by the State Senate on Monday and said she will reach out to veterans+ work with state leaders to improve their benefits.  WDEL
  • Governor Matt Meyer’s office confirmed more than a dozen state appointments on Sept. 15 and Sept. 22—these roles include key positions in public health, veterans affairs, elections and natural resource management. The new appointees, such as the incoming Secretary of Health and a new CEO for Delaware Hospice, will help shape policy and service delivery across the state.  Coast TV
  • Gov. Matt Meyer signed Senate Bill 80 on Sept. 15 to protect Delaware citizens from meritless lawsuits aimed at silencing free speech.
