- ➤ The Old State House in Dover will host a free program titled Master of the Macabre — The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe on October 4 at 1:00 p.m. that will showcase Poe’s poems and invite audience members to share their own readings. Delaware Public Media
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traps set along the Kent—New Castle border caught a few box tree moths, showing some are spreading north from their initial detection in Kent County in July 2024. Jeffrey Brothers from the Department of Agriculture advised boxwood owners to inspect their plants this spring and treat any caterpillars with insecticide. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is accepting project proposals for its Community Water Quality Improvement Grants program with awards from $25,000 to $75,000—applications must be emailed by Oct. 29 at 4:30 p.m. to support projects that improve water quality on developed lands. - ➤ A new community solar facility will be built near Hartly after Levy Court approved the proposal following a unanimous recommendation from the Regional Planning Commission—developer Greg Moore said the site is well located to offer discounted energy and safe emergency access for fire trucks. - ➤ Governor Meyer signed House Bill 67 today to protect motorists from predatory towing practices—this new law sets limits on towing fees, requires photo proof and prior authorization for tows, and allows consumers to reclaim personal property from illegally towed vehicles. The bill goes into effect immediately to enforce these standards. WGMD
- ➤ Delaware drivers received new protections under House Bill 67 signed yesterday that require tow companies to get photographic evidence and written authorization before moving vehicles from private parking areas. The law sets a maximum towing fee of $250 and a daily storage fee of $50, and mandates that storage facilities operate 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. five days a week — steps aimed at curbing predatory towing practices—.
