GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings joined a coalition of 21 attorneys general to file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Rhode Island to block new DOJ restrictions that would prevent states from using federal funds to help survivors of violent crimes—this rule is set to take effect on October 31. The coalition argues the rule violates the Constitution and could harm victim services. WGMD
- ➤ The Food Bank of Delaware is preparing for a rise in demand as the ongoing federal government shutdown leaves many workers without pay while food insecurity rates hit a 10-year high. - ➤ Delaware passed House Bill 164 that imposes a $60 annual registration fee on gasoline hybrids while electric vehicle owners pay $110 a year; fuel tax math shows that hybrid drivers should pay around $30 and David T. - ➤ Bayhealth is planning a two-phase expansion of its Kent and Sussex County campuses to boost patient space and upgrade facilities—its first phase will cost $250 million and run through 2029.
