BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce (CDCC) announced that it will host ribbon-cutting ceremonies in October for Dover businesses to celebrate grand openings, renovations and new locations, and organizers said the events (planned for later this month) will honor local enterprise.  Bay to Bay News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University announced today it received a $2 million grant from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to support eHBCU—an online consortium that expands access to the unique education of historically Black Colleges. The funds, part of a $16 million award from the Lily Endowment, will strengthen capacity building and innovation at partner schools.  WDEL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Matt Meyer established the Delaware Task Force on Sustainable Transportation Funding Friday to review revenue trends and long-term solutions for the Transportation Trust Fund—Secretary of Transportation Shanté Hastings will chair the 18-member group, which includes state officials and union leaders as it explores new revenue sources and addresses infrastructure challenges.  WDEL

HEALTH NEWS

  • On October 3, more than 5000 people took part in the 14th annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K walk/race in Dewey Beach to raise funds for the Sussex County Breast Cancer Coalition—this event followed a $365,000 donation to the coalition last year.  Delaware Online

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Appoquinimink High School marching band performed at halftime during the Jaguars’ 48—14 win over Cape Henlopen on October 3 at Appoquinimink.  Delaware Online
  • The Fightin’ Blue Hens lost 27—24 to Western Kentucky in their first home CUSA game when a late drive fell short on a field goal attempt and quarterback Nick Minicucci took full accountability for key turnovers. They will travel to Alabama on October 15th to face Jacksonville State after gaining 435 yards in total offense before over 19,000 fans watched the game.  Delaware LIVE
