BUSINESS NEWS

  • At the Oct. 9 conference in Dover, representatives from three counties presented their project ideas during the Developing Delaware: Conversation, Collaboration, Innovation event. During his talk, the Starwood Digital Ventures CEO outlined plans to build a new data center in Delaware City.  Bay to Bay News
  • On Sept 30, Nautilus Solar Energy LLC announced a $100,000 donation to support three community organizations across Delaware + it said the funding will help boost local projects.  Bay to Bay News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware honored four trailblazing women at the annual Women’s Hall of Fame induction held on Oct. 8 at Chase Center on the Riverfront—Valerie Biden Owens, Claire DeMatteis, Charlotte King and Charlotte Miller-Lacy were recognized for their leadership and contributions to the state.  Coast TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local officials and emergency agencies said high winds and heavy rains from a nor’easter may cause flooding, wind damage and beach erosion later this weekend. Local businesses are preparing and urging residents to secure property — steps aimed to lessen the storm’s impact.  Bay to Bay News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Department of Agriculture announced Friday that the 29th round of easement selections by the Delaware Agricultural Lands Preservation Foundation preserved 36 properties totaling over 2,800 acres at a cost of $14.9 million. County governments contributed funds—Sussex County provided $1,917,156, New Castle County contributed $225,769, and Kent County offered $100,000—to help secure the farmland for continued use.  Coast TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Oct. 10, Delaware high school football teams played games with varied scores — St. Andrews beat Early College 42 to 20 and Saint Mark’s won 47 to 7 while other teams including Sussex Central, Dover, Smyrna, Cape Henlopen and Seaford also recorded their results.  Bay to Bay News
  • Josalyn Carter of Padua volleyball was named Delaware Online High School Sports Athlete of the Week after recording 27 kills, three blocks, and 10 digs in wins over Caravel, Newark Charter, and Delaware Military Academy — she won the award by beating four other nominees through online voting from Monday to Thursday.  Delaware Online
  • Yesterday, at Caesar Rodney High, the football team suffered a tough loss when Caravel drove the ball near the two-yard line while trailing by four — the team says the close game shows it is ready for the district schedule.  Bay to Bay News
