- ➤ Delaware State University and End Community Violence Now are co-hosting the first-ever Community Violence Intervention Summit today from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at DSU’s Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center in Dover—community leaders, researchers and policymakers will discuss data-driven strategies to reduce violence. - ➤ Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 7 at its new Dover location at 1151 N. Dupont Highway — the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce hosted the ribbon-cutting ceremony as the restaurant now welcomes local customers. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Small businesses with five or more W-2 employees must enroll in Delaware EARNS or file an exemption by Wednesday October 15 to avoid penalties, state Treasurer Colleen Davis said. Program data show the plan covers about 7,500 workers and manages $7-million in assets — a benefit that levels the playing field with larger employers — while allowing employees to roll over their savings when changing jobs. - ➤ Brinkley Hill in Camden got a state historical marker on October 9 at Caesar Rodney High School to honor its role on the Underground Railroad and as one of Delaware’s first free Black communities — local teacher Ryan Pickett had long worked for the sign. The marker shows how the Brinkley brothers helped more than 100 people escape to freedom — a recognition that finally brings this hidden history to light. Bay to Bay News
- ➤ Repairs were completed on the Wilmington & Western Railroad—work included new wheels on a locomotive and installation of 2,500 railroad ties—so excursion rides will resume soon from Greenbank Station through Red Clay Valley with fall and holiday events planned.
