CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware native Aubrey Plaza is in talks with Margaret Qualley to star in 'Go, Beavers!'—the third film in Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke's lesbian trilogy—while the script remains unfinished and her role is not yet confirmed.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware State University nursing students showcased their research at the Wilmington VA Medical Center as part of a two-year (grant-funded) initiative that taught them about health disparities and clinical research. They worked with clinical mentors and medical students to present case reports and build skills for their future nursing careers.  Delaware State University
  • The Caesar Rodney School District Board voted on October 13 to place an operating referendum on the February 9 ballot with a weather backup on February 18. Leaders say the measure will raise about $6.1 million by increasing property taxes by 9.22 cents per $100 to pay for school needs while some residents worry about the extra cost.  WDEL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Insurance’s Medicare Assistance Bureau shared its annual consumer update as Medicare open enrollment started Oct. 15—offering free guidance that saved Delawareans $2.2 million last year. Appointments for phone, virtual and in-person counseling are available from Oct. 20 to Nov. 20 at Dover, Wilmington, and Georgetown offices to help choose or change Medicare and prescription drug plans until Dec. 7.  Bay to Bay News

  • Kyrin Timmons of Smyrna was named Delaware Online Football Athlete of the Week for Oct. 9-11 after he forced a fumble that set up the winning touchdown in a 42-34 win over Cape Henlopen—he won an online vote over four nominees—announced by Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists.  Delaware Online
  • On Friday, Oct 17, Delaware high school football games ended with several decisive wins as First State Military defeated Early College 47–0 and Indian River beat Woodbridge 35–8. The scores from multiple match-ups showed teams like Red Lion Christian and Brandywine starting the season strong with big wins.  Bay to Bay News
