CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware Symphonic Winds is the First State’s only semi-professional wind ensemble that features band directors, freelance musicians and college music students from the region—its fall program 'Suites, Sprints & Soundscapes' will play at Dover High School on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and William Penn High School on Nov. 2 at 3 p.m., with the spring program 'Windswept Journeys' scheduled at Dover High School on April 18 at 7 p.m. and at Cape Henlopen High School on April 19 at 3 p.m.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware beaches will host Halloween events as the Sea Witch Festival runs Oct 24—26 in Rehoboth and Dewey with costume parades, live music, and trick-or-treating, while downtown Bethany Beach holds the dog-themed Wags, Witches and Warlocks event on Oct 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.—all benefiting the Brandywine Valley SPCA.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Delaware’s Cooperative Extension launched a new online fact sheet to support agriculture and aquaculture communities across the state — developed with input from the Agriculture Department, DNREC, the Farm Bureau and USDA Farm Service Agency. It guides both new and experienced professionals with programs, business accelerators and additional resources.  WDEL
  • Caesar Rodney students celebrated their homecoming dance on Oct. 18—held at the high school in Camden.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Delaware officials warned drivers to stay alert as white-tailed deer begin their mating season and cross roads—raising the risk of collisions; they advised reducing speed and using high beams in low light. The state noted that crashes have already occurred and urged motorists to follow safety tips to remain safe.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Dover Planning Commission is reviewing a master plan for Blue Hen Corporate Center which proposes two 8,000-square-foot buildings and a 515-vehicle parking lot at 631 and 655 S. Bay Road — the meeting will also address plans for a Hilton hotel and a 7-Eleven gas station.  Bay to Bay News

  • On Friday night, Salesianum shut out Appoquinimink 49-0 while Seaford beat Newark Charter 33-7 — Middletown also beat Caravel 28-7 and Smyrna edged Caesar Rodney 22-17. Upcoming matchups include Middletown at Salesianum and St. Georges at Smyrna as teams vie for playoff spots.  WDEL
