COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Food Bank of Delaware will hold three mass drive-thru distributions later this month for residents needing food assistance—proof of local residency is required and service is limited to one per household. The events begin at 9:00 a.m. on November 17 at Delaware Park in Wilmington, November 19 at Dover Motor Speedway in Dover, and November 21 at Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown with pre-registration encouraged.  WGMD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • DSU Women’s Wrestling Team saved a woman in a highway accident on Nov. 3 when Assistant Coach Brock Budesheim stopped on Interstate 95 near the Del. 1 exit to help her after she fell asleep at the wheel. The team kept her safe until emergency services arrived—coaches credited their quick action with saving her life.  Delaware State University

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi launched its 2025 Thanksgiving meal deal for Delaware shoppers, offering enough food for 10 people for $40—saving $7 from last year—and is available in stores and online through Christmas Eve. The bundle includes turkey, pork roast, side dishes, and pantry staples needed for a full traditional meal.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Student enrollment in Delaware public high schools dropped by over 1% as the September 30 count showed Dover High lost 84 students (its enrollment is nearly 150 below the level from two years ago) while Caesar Rodney added 53 students. Other districts like Red Clay and Appoquinimink reported further declines that are prompting districts to adjust capacity and feeder patterns ahead of state funding updates.  WDEL
  • Delaware School Choice Enrollment applications for the 2026/2027 school year are now open, having started on Nov 3 and closing on Jan 14. Families may list up to three school choices and will hear back about their enrollment by Feb 27—that includes public, charter, and vocational-technical schools.  WDEL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware’s open enrollment for health insurance began November 1 and state leaders warn that without extended tax credits, families will soon face steep premium hikes that may force them to choose between health care and other essentials. Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester and insurance commissioner Trinidad Navarro say rising costs will pressure Delawareans to make hard budget choices — from paying bills to buying groceries.  Bay to Bay News
  • A new report from the American Lung Association shows lung cancer remains the top cancer killer in Delaware and Maryland—Delaware ranks fifth in screening nationwide while advocates urge more early detection—and Maryland already requires comprehensive biomarker testing for personalized treatment.  WGMD

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A study found that Delaware residents favor the strawberry frosted doughnut with sprinkles—Homer Simpson’s favorite—because Dunkin’ has 66 stores. The study used search data from September 2024 to September 2025 and compared 30 doughnut types across states.  Delaware Online
