- ➤ On Tuesday, Feed-a-Friend Shopping Day allowed five local groups to shop at Costco in Christiana after raising over $27,000 from WDEL’s Feed-a-Friend Drive. The event helped teams from Emmanuel Dining Room, Sunday Breakfast Mission, Food Bank of Delaware (YWCA partner), and Newark Area Welfare Committee buy food and supplies. WDEL
- ➤ The Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company has elected Samantha Grimminger as its first female president. Grimminger, who served as secretary and board member in recent years, now leads the fire company serving Leipsic + neighboring Whitehall Crossroads and Whitehall Landing. WBOC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Delaware Electric Cooperative said its Beat the Peak program saved members $3.9 million in 2025 by encouraging lower power use during peak demand periods + members in Kent and Sussex adjusted thermostats and delayed appliance use to keep rates low. Coast TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Delaware’s Public Education Funding Commission approved a hybrid school funding model Monday (boosting funds for multilingual, low-income, and special needs students) and will address equalization efforts at its Jan. 26 meeting at 4 p.m. Delaware Public Media
- ➤ DSU College of Business students finished second in the national Salesforce Agentblazer Challenge that ran throughout September. Three students earned Champion Status and won $200 each for their work building chatbots and learning real AI skills. Delaware State University
- ➤ University of Delaware named Laura Carlson its 29th president on Dec. 9, following her interim role since July (she is only the second woman to lead the university in its 282-year history). Delaware Online

- ➤ Delmarva Power submitted proposals on Tuesday, Dec. 9 to the Delaware Public Service Commission to launch new customer programs & a rate review to fund grid upgrades, with future rate changes planned but no immediate impact on customer bills. Coast TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Senior Marshay Brown became the first girl in school history to reach 1,000 career points on Dec. 6 during a game against Delaware Military Academy. A celebration is planned for Thursday, Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in Wentworth Gymnasium as the school honors her dedication to basketball. WBOC
