COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Dover will keep lights glowing along Loockerman Street through the holiday season. The lights began shining today at 5:00 a.m. and will continue to brighten local celebrations.  Bay to Bay News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Grocery and convenience stores are open today during special Christmas hours — Acme, Walgreens, CVS, Wawa and Giant Foods operate while some chains offered reduced schedules on Christmas Eve at Target, Walmart and Trader Joe’s.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DART operates its regular weekday service on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) and New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) but does not run fixed-route and paratransit services today or on New Year's Day (Jan. 1) while SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line trains follow a holiday schedule.  WGMD
  • DSHA seeks $4 million in its fiscal year 2027 budget to expand the Hope Center model (successful in New Castle County) into Kent and Sussex by repurposing existing buildings to support people experiencing homelessness. Local officials stress that the centers must focus on treatment before housing.  WBOC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dover resident Denise Marks shared her personal loss after her daughter died by suicide due to an unsecured firearm and urged families to secure their guns. She calls for open community dialogue on gun safety and to use the 988 hotline (for crisis support) when needed.  Bay to Bay News
  • Bayhealth completed its Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) that identifies Kent’s top health needs; the three-year process will guide future improvements in local care.  Bay to Bay News

SPORTS NEWS

  • 46 Delaware high school football players earned the Maxwell Football Club's Mini-Max Award for football skill, academics + community service. They will be finalists for the Delaware Player of the Year Award, to be announced Feb. 1 at Drexelbrook Catering and Event Center in Drexel Hill, PA.  WDEL
