- ➤ On May 31, Dover Police responded to a bus stop robbery on White Oak Road when a 53-year-old victim was pepper-sprayed and had her purse stolen before being taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus, and on June 1 the department arrested 45-year-old Christy Guzman, who is held on $15,000 bail (charged with Robbery First Degree and Assault Second Degree). - ➤ Delaware will host 19 concerts this June at venues across Dewey Beach, Wilmington, Lewes and Dover—music fans can enjoy a range of shows from tribute bands to blues, country and pop-punk. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Joint Finance Committee sent a $6.58 billion state operating budget to the General Assembly that raises funding by 7.36% over this year while protecting Delaware's reserve funds—this bill includes a 2% raise for education and state merit employees, increased funding for public schools and healthcare, and support for literacy, victim services, and rental assistance. - ➤ Delaware lawmakers introduced HB 210, the Pollution Accountability Act, to increase penalties for commercial polluters and require that 40% of fines be reinvested in communities near violations — a measure that targets issues like air pollution, nutrient runoff and hazardous waste. - ➤ Delaware legislators introduced House Bill 174, known as the Elizabeth Barnes Act, to offer financial and supportive services for families after a suicide loss by adding a fee to residential, wireless, business and prepaid services.
